The Caputa area running along U.S. Highway 44 east of Rapid City and to the south will be added to the Golden West fiber network in 2024.

Broadband internet access is coming
to the Caputa area!

Golden West's fiber-optic network connection will allow you to perform everyday activities online more easily for education, business, healthcare, entertainment, and more.

CHR Solutions, a contractor working for Golden West, began construction in the area in May. For your safety, every worker has a Golden West name badge. Those at eligible addresses who pre-order service should have a broadband connection by the end of 2024 or very early in 2025.

At that time the following speeds will be available – with no data limits and no contracts – as follows:

  • up to 250 Mbps – $64.95/month
  • up to 500 Mbps – $84.95/month
  • up to 1 Gbps (1 Gig) – $104.95/month

Golden West also offers Wi-Fi plans to serve all of your many wireless devices.

  • Ultimate Wi-Fi – $11.00/month. This plan offers exceptional security protection and access control, along with a router lease and Golden West Wi-Fi technical support.
  • Managed Wi-Fi – $6.00/month. This plan includes a router lease and Golden West Wi-Fi technical support.

2024 PROJECT UPDATES

December 19, 2024

  • MasTec has completed plowing all main line fiber and lines to customer premises.
  • Splicers have some routes tested. They are splicing fiber on the west side of the project.
  • When splicing is completed, Golden West technicians will connect the fibers inside the new building at Caputa.
  • Customers will receive a letter to notify them when Golden West can begin scheduling appointments to connect new service.
  • Crews will be off through the end of the year for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

December 12, 2024

  • MasTec’s plows are working on Radar Hill Road south of the highway, on Anderson Road, and at the end of Long View Road on Anderson Road.
  • A crew burying lines to customer homes is working on Long View Road.
  • Splicers continue to work on connecting the new fibers.

December 5, 2024

  • MasTec’s plows are working on Redemption Road.
  • A crew burying lines to customer homes is working on Long View Road.

November 21, 2024

  • MasTec has a plow burying mainline fiber between Radar Hill and Long View Roads.
  • A second crew is plowing from Radar Hil Road south from the highway, moving toward Redemption Road.
  • Splicers continue to work on connecting the new fibers.
  • Construction crews will be off next week for the Thanksgiving holiday. Splicers will be on site Monday through Wednesday next week.

  • Three bore crews are working on the project. The first is on Old Folsom Road, the second is on Justice Lane, and the third is working in the Back Country Trail subdivision.

  • A bore crew is drilling and inserting vacant duct on Highway 44 near the airport.

August 29, 2024

  • Most of the crews will be off on rotation over the Labor Day weekend, so construction activity will be limited  between August 28 and September 4.
  • Work will resume next Wednesday with one crew working three miles west of Dancing Wolf and the second crew near Justice Lane and Longview Road.

August 22, 2024

  • MasTec is plowing mainline cable south of Dancing Wolf development on Antelope Creek Road.
  • A bore crew is drilling and inserting pipe underground in the Dancing Wolf area.
